History

The legacy begins at the prestigious Philadelphia Club in 1922, where Jimmy Duffy met Esther McKeown while Jimmy was a Bar Manager and Esther the Bookkeeper. Jimmy and Esther wed in 1923, embarking on a lifelong partnership that pushed Jimmy Duffy’s to the forefront of the Catering world. When Prohibition struck, Jimmy began a much storied run as purveyors of fine wines and spirits. In 1931 Jimmy and Esther opened Jimmy Duffy’s Cafe, they had no shortage of loyal clients. And the Cafe and Catering business grew rapidly.One of their regulars included F. Scott Fitzgerald, who even styled a character in the Last Tycoon after Jimmy Duffy.

Jimmy’s sons Paul and Ed moved the catering business forward throughout the 1950’s as Jimmy Duffy’s remained at the top of the entertaining world. Notable events included the marriage of Frank Sinatra to Ava Gardner. Parties for the Kelly family when their daughter became Princess Grace of Monaco, events for Presidents Eisenhower through Ford and elegant parties at the the magnificent town home of Henry McIlhenny.

Another generation stepped into cement Jimmy Duffy’s place among the foremost event managers in the nation in the 1970’s. Paul Duffy’s son, Pol and his wife Bernadette. Presided over the company’s expansion into Princeton and the surrounding region. Even catering for the Pope in 1979.

Now with the help of Pol’s sister Helene Wilson, the fourth generation. They continue to uphold the Jimmy Duffy’s mission with uncompromising levels of dedication and excellence.
